Unsworth Vineyards

2021 Chardonnay

2021 Chardonnay

2021 marks our third release of Chardonnay which is certain to become a mainstay of the Unsworth Portfolio. The cool climate expression of this most noble grape is dry and poised on the palate with an elegant integration of fruit. In the glass it reveals complex notes of spice, nutty and chalky minerality. More thrilled we could not be at the addition of Chardonnay to our winery!

Anthony Gismondi – 92points "2021 is year three for the Unsworth Chardonnay, which is no doubt surprising to some, given the attention this grape is getting at the winery. This fruit comes off Mildenstein Vineyard, a Cowichan slope covered in marine silts. The winemaking is rudimentary, with a whole cluster press, partially native fermented in neutral barriques, and aged 8 months on its lees. This is the best yet, with almost luscious acidity, in essence, tempered by the lees, with a salty hazelnut inner core, fresh lemon and green apple palate, and mineral finish. An impressive bottle with new vineyards and a new production facility to follow shortly. Oysters are the match."

Tasting Notes
Notes of lemon curd, yellow apple and blanched almonds on the nose lead to a dry and poised palate featuring flavours of ripe citrus, hazelnut and subtle spice notes and leading to a long finish.
Production Notes
Our third vintage of Chardonnay was gently whole cluster pressed to neutral French oak barrels for its fermentation and subsequent 8 months elevage before bottling.
Food Pairing Notes
The freshness and minerality of this Chardonnay makes it magic with dishes like Halibut in a rich savory curry, seared tuna with a tangy salsa or salad, and simple seafood like oysters on the halfshell.
